Venetian Plaster

Elegant Venetian plaster

What is Venetian Plaster?

The traditional venetian plaster is made from a mixture of slaked lime & finely ground marble dust.

It originated in the 15th-century Venice where it was widely used in the Roman Empire period to mimic the appearance of high-cost marble & natural stones without the heavy weight that could cause structural issues. It was extensively used for both interior and exterior wall finishes of Renaissance palaces, cathedrals and in the humid Venetian lagoon. We can see today these good finishes after exposure to time and weather.

Applying Venetian plaster is considered an art form that requires expertise and patience as the process involved multiple thin layers to achieve the desired finish. It can also be enhanced with pigments to create beautiful tones and gradations of colour. Now becoming more popular worldwide in residential and commercial spaces.

What are the Benefits?

  • Safe & Eco Friendly

Natural materials do not contain harmful chemicals or toxins (lime, marble dust, water, and pigments). Lime is produced at a much lower temperature than cement, making it a more sustainable alternative.

  • Beauty Appeal

It can be a subtle matte look or enhanced mirror-like polish, imitating the appearance of natural stone marble like.

  • Durability

Lime has a long history as a building material with a proven track record of resilience and longevity. When applied correctly by a skilled artist, Venetian Plaster is very durable and hardens over time.

  • Breathability and Mould Resistance

As Venetian Plaster is Lime based with a high PH(+12), lime has natural antimicrobial properties that inhabit the growth of moulds and bacteria even in hot and humid environments. It allows moisture to evaporate, which balances the humidity levels in the room, reducing the risk of mould and respiratory problems.

  • Low maintenance

Easy to clean with soap and a damp cloth.
